5 Ways to Overcome Wanderlust On a Winter Day

This weekend, we’re supposed to be getting some pretty serious snow for the first time this winter, and the people here are preparing themselves for a ‘snowpocolypse’. I’ve heard mentions of power going out and almost a foot of snow in our future. I don’t know that things will truly be that bad, but i do predict that quite a few people will be cozying up in the warmth of the indoors for the next few days.

Even back home in California, rain has been dumping down and the wind has been blowing strong. So, whether you’re not wanting to brave the weather, or you’re simply looking for some low-key indoor activities this weekend, we’ve got 5 Ways to Overcome Wanderlust on a Winter Day!

Plan A Future Trip:

Just because this weekend isn’t quite packed with adventure doesn’t mean you can’t get yourself ready for a better one in the future. Hop on Pinterest, get on Google, sift through magazines. Whatever your method, use it to get yourself inspired. Even daydreaming is good for the soul.

Put Together a Puzzle:

Sean and I have 2 puzzles of Santorini that we’re working on. It’s not QUITE the same as being back on the island, but it definitely takes us back and brings us good memories while we put it together.

Choose one of a destination you’ve traveled to and loved or one that’s still on your list. Bonus: with a little puzzle glue and a frame, you’ve got yourself some travel decor.

Read a Book:

I love finding books that are based around other countries or take you on an adventure. Some of my favorites lately have been;

  1. Ireland by Frank Delaney
  2. The Shoemaker’s Wife by Adriana Trigiani
  3. The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho
  4. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
  5. Wild by Cheryl Strayed

Cook a Meal:

Taste is sometimes the most underrated of our senses. Often, we think smells or sights are what remind us of a place most. But, I disagree. Sean and I found instant coffee made by the same brand as we had during our time in Ireland, and every time we drink it, it takes us back. Spend some time putting together a great meal reminiscent of a favorite trip or one you’d like to take. For recipe ideas, check out our Meals Around the Globe board.

Immerse Yourself in a Movie:

Books aren’t always what we’re most in the mood for. Sometimes, we just want to cozy up on the couch and zone out a little. If this is you, Netflix has some great movies for travel enthusiasts. Some that are on our list;

  1. Expedition To Happiness
  2. Into The Wild
  3. Pedal The World
  4. Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown

And on YouTube;
